Infamous Ohio NP who falsely claimed to be a doctor now facing felony charges for illegal prescribing

Imagine you just purchased a time machine, and for some inexplicable reason you decide to go all the way back to August 2021. It's a lovely summer day, and you're enjoying your time at the Cedar Point amusement park in Sandusky, Ohio. Suddenly, a piece of metal debris falls from a roller coaster and strikes a very unlucky lady, and EMS arrives shortly afterwards. But before long, everyone's attention turns to a brown-haired Karen making her way to the front of the crowd while loudly proclaiming "I have a medical degree!" over and over and actively interfering with EMS. Remember Elizabeth Ann Zinni, the infamous (or perhaps notorious?) family nurse practitioner who decided to make a name for herself in the worst way possible?

Thirty-eight year old NP Zinni is the owner of Zinni Family Practice in Canfield, Ohio, just outside Youngstown, a place commonly known as the armpit of Ohio. She has been running the practice since her father, family physician Gregory Zinni, MD passed away suddenly in 2021.

Elizabeth Zinni is facing two counts of sale or use of drugs not approved by the Food and Drug Administration, fifth-degree felonies.

Local news media recently reported that on October 30, 2025, NP Zinni was indicted by a Mahoning County grand jury on two fifth-degree felony counts of sale or use of drugs not approved by the Food and Drug Administration. She was later formally arraigned on November 12, 2025, and entered an initial plea of not guilty. A trial date is currently set for January 12, 2026.

We're still trying to obtain a full copy of the indictment, but local news media mentions that the unapproved drugs are “Sodio de Cloreto” and “Liporase.” We're not sure what the hell “Sodio de Cloreto” is (Portugese salt???), but liporase is a non-FDA-approved enzyme product used cosmetically as a dissolving compound for hyaluronic acid-based fillers.

It's unclear if the charges have anything to do with a letter Ohio Attorney General Dave Yost sent out earlier this April to 14 med spas in Ohio, including Zinni's practice, warning them against making false or misleading claims about their "custom" (i.e. compounded) versions of popular weight-loss drugs such as Ozempic, Wegovy, Zepbound, and Mounjaro. Zinni later doubled down against the Ohio AG and released this statement to the local news:

Given NP Zinni's behavior at Cedar Point in 2021 and the fact that she's now been hit with two felony charges, we totally believe that she adheres to the highest standards of medical practice, much in the same way that flies adhere to shit.

Hilariously, the most recent filing in the court docket is a request for her to be allowed to travel to St. Thomas in the Virgin Islands for vacation later this month. Will the honorable Judge let this wily nurse practitioner make an "escape" all the way to the Caribbean? If so, we certainly hope she doesn't "forget" to come back!
